About The Department

The department was established in 1896. Over the years it has developed into a significant academic epicentre involving various courses on core as well as applied physics. The department conducts programme at the Bachelor's level with an intake capacity of 64.


  • To facilitate the conceptual understanding of the philosophies of various physical phenomena.
  • To motivate scientific thinking not only in daily life but also in solving various problems on the active research areas being explored.
  • To conduct various programmes to cater to the curiosities and enthusiasm arising in the minds of the students.


  • To introduce programmes at M. Sc. and M. Phil level and conduct research at Ph.D. levels.
  • To upgrade theoretical as well as practical teaching through ICT.
  • To encourage physics learning and its application among the students.
  • To undertake various minor and major research projects in interdisciplinary studies.
  • To develop E – Content.
